Longwood Gardens & Fireworks

Bridget, Mom Kelleher and I all went to Longwood Gardens this last Saturday.  My wifey cake was busy reading her Harry Potter, but she was nice enough to set aside some time since I really wanted to go to Longwood, both to see (and of course take pictures) of all of the flowers and displays there.  Also I wanted to go because they had a beautiful fireworks display that night, which they have 4 times a year.

The gardens are impressive, with visitors from all over the world viewing miles of outdoor and indoor exhibits.  And the fireworks were very impressive, set to music from Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony and colored water fountains.  My honey, who hates fireworks, was even impressed!

Here, of course, are plenty of pictures of the gardens:

I love Longwood Gardens. We go at least once a week in the summer. How crowded was the firework show? There is another coming up, but I wonder if fighting the crowds would be worth it.

Hi Mary Ann!

The fireworks show was extremely impressive, they put on a wonderful show and I would highly recommend it. It wasn’t too crowded at all, everyone had a full view of the fountains and fireworks from their vantage point. They only sell a limited amount of tickets, I would buy them in advance because our show did sell out.

I would just recommend getting there around 3pm, which is when they allow you to bring in chairs/blankets for the show. Just setup at a spot you like, then come back at show time.

The only hassle with the crowds was trying to get out of the parking lot at the end of the night. But it wasn’t too bad, and they leave the indoor exhibits open so you can walk through there and wait for people to leave.

Thanks for the great info. Do you have a recommended vantage point?

Yes, I would recommend getting a spot on the grass level centered between the fountains…. I would get a spot far back near the entrance doors to the Conservatory. This provides an excellent view of all of the fountains and fireworks, and is the best place to take pictures from.
